Udzungwa Forest Lodge - Udzungwa Mountains

Udzungwa Forest Lodge/Tented Camp (also known as Hondo Hondo, the KiSwahili for Hornbill) is situated on the border of the beautiful Udzungwa Mountains National Park. The lodge provides the only luxury accommodation option in the Udzungwa Mountains area.

Accommodation is in luxury en-suite tented units set on the edge of the forest. You will fall asleep to the sound of bush babies and awake to birdsong. Our helpful, professional staff are on hand to ensure your stay is a memorable one.

Hondo Hondo Lodge provides the highest standard of accommodation available in the area. There is a well stocked bar with a great ambiance and a fine restaurant producing mouth-watering meals.

Escape to the Mountains

The Udzungwa Forest Lodge is ideally situated for day trip access to the Udzungwa Mountains National Park and also provides a both a great start and end point for the more adventurous who wish to camp overnight within the park itself.

The hotel is close to the National Park Headquarters, near the village of Mangula in the lush green Kilombero Valley. The lodge's comfortable well-appointed rooms and breath-taking views across the forest canopy and out over the highly fertile Kilombero Valley make the Udzungwa Forest Lodge a fantastic place to stay in its own right.

A range of activities are available here in the Udzungwa Mountains National Park, including some of Tanzania's finest birdwatching opportunities, hiking and trekking trails, swimming in waterfall plunge pools, and the chance to spot some of the area's remarkable primates such as the Black and White Colobus and the rare and endemic Udzungwa Red Colobus and the Sanje Crested Mangebey. The recently discovered Highland Mangebey or Kipunji is also found in the Udzungwa Range.

After an exciting day's activities, enjoy the luxury of birdwatching and primate watching from the comfort of the lodge itself. Relax over sunset drinks on the terrace of the Udzungwa Forest Lodge bar, surrounded by the calls of Crowned, Silvery-cheeked, and Trumpeter Hornbills from which the lodge takes its local name. Watching the troops of Colobus swing through the trees of the nearby forest canopy around sunset is a unique and exciting experience.
